Challenged by it? Become one with it.

I live in an area where we experience all four seasons, which I enjoy. But the part where spring, summer, and fall each get 2 months and winter gets 6? Not so much.

Okay, that’s a slight exaggeration, but since snow may start flying by October (though not this particular year, since it happens to be 55 degrees outside as I type) and may still be hitting us in April, it often feels like winter overstays its welcome.

There are times when the lack of sunlight starts to get to me. So I’ve learned to embrace it.

You heard me right. I embrace it rather than sonuvabitch it as I once did and in choosing it I become empowered by it. I tell myself that “I signed up for this package” and in viewing it through that lens I assume control of my role in it.

*more to come in future posts regarding the “I signed up for this package” philosophy, as it’s a crucial fBf transformative remedy that serves to deconstruct a victim mentality and instill one of empowered resilience *

I take my workout outside and I adapt. It’s been my experience that nothing is as formidable as it seems once you throw yourself into the midst of it, and cold, wintry weather is no exception.

It always looks worse looking out at it from inside than it does when you’re in it.

Because when you’re in it, you’re IN IT!

You become a part of it, rather than a resistant bystander. In becoming a part of it and allowing yourself to embrace and immerse yourself in it, you are a beneficiary of its strength and power.

The physical and psychological (heart and head) feed from this strength and align themselves accordingly, empowering you to adapt.

As I’ve told you repeatedly, it’s my belief that when you’re meant to do something, you will always be given what you need to do it.

Always.

I’m not encouraging you to ever conform into anything that compromises the integrity of your authenticity. We’re not here for the sake of being the “same”. That’s not what adaptation is about.

Adaptation involves allowing ourselves to “flow” amidst the circumstance or situation, letting go of expectation and emotion while learning to drift along in becoming. To borrow Bruce Lee’s words

“Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water.”

For most of us this will not come easily or “naturally”. Truly, the most empowering of practices rarely do, but instead require repeated perpetual training in.

Adapting, whether it be in regard to your workout, the weather, your relationships, your job, etc… is an essential practice in empowerment and self-actualization.

Whatever your challenge is today, I urge you to stop fighting against it and instead choose to immerse yourself in it, receiving its energy.

You may find the resolution you’ve been looking for.

“I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away

You shoot me down, but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down, but I won’t fall
I am titanium…” -David Guetta

  1. A good philosophy. If we’re signed up for something, then commit and do it well. The reward we get will match the energy we put in.
